Upwards teaches life and leadership skills to young people aged 12 - 19 years.
Kia ora, welcome! Upwards is a 9-week programme in groups led by facilitators, designed particularly for Māori and Pasifika students aged 12-19 but accessible to all young people, no matter their background.
Upwards is centred around the idea that everyone can be a hero, and the role of universally-applicable leadership skills in a person's own heroic journey. It's based on a tikanga Māori framework around the whole person, and having agency in one's own life.
We use constructionist-based, kinaesthetic learning to work together, draw on shared knowledge/ako, create shared outcomes, and have fun along the way.
Based on tikanga Māori and designed for the challenges facing young people in New Zealand, Upwards aims to teach the crucial life skills needed to be a functioning adult, and move upwards in life.
